hi, i must say i like the podcast, but i am subscribed via accessible podcatcher, and i wish that there could be more episodes i could stream. i also was wondering if you could record more TV shows, such as i love lucy etc etc. anyway, i have another suggesstion about the podcast. u could try http://www.gcast.xom. u have free unlimited bandwith and podcast distribution. they have to be in MP3 though. thanks!

Thanks so much for your comment, Robert. I’m sorry it’s taken me so long to reply, but I’ve been trying to learn more about stuff that would answer the issues you’ve brought up, and I haven’t been very good at it.
First off, what accessible podcatcher do you use? I figure more than a few people would like to find something like it.
Because I try to be careful about using embedded/flash-based players on the site that might mess up navigation, I haven’t included one for streaming so far, figuring people can do the “click to download directly” link (though that, of course, downloads as it streams, usually) or directing folks to each episode’s Internet Archive page, which does have streaming. I realize, though, the IA page isn’t super-easy to navigate either, while easier than many.
While each IA page does have an embedded player in the middle of the page (it’s the only embed it has), there are a couple other links to streams as well. Maybe the easiest to find is in a box on the left hand side of the page, the first thing after all those links along the top. If you go through the images (no alt text, unfortunately), right after the fourth image, there are streaming links: “VBR M3U” for hi-fi and “64Kbps M3U” for lo-fi. The stream links are also under the embedded player – if you go from link to link, they’re usually after the link “Attribution-Noncommercial-Share Alike 2.5 Canada” (the Creative Commons licence). First there’s the 64kbps stream (“Stream”), then a link to that .zip file, then the link to the VBR stream (“Stream”). Depending on your preferences, clicking these links will prompt you to approve what software you want to play that .m3u stream (for me, the option is iTunes). Btw, the links after that are the .zip file for the VBR, followed by alternate file sizes for download: VBR MP3, Ogg Vorbis, and 64kbps MP3. The links themselves are the file sizes.
Yes, that all sounds a bit complex. I’m going to find out more about how I get a stream into the feed or on the site without it being too invasive. All suggestions are welcome. (Hey! It just occurs to me to link on the blog to the stream! I’ll get on that and learn if that works.)
IA seems a little tricky in this circumstance, but I prefer it for the podcast, of course because it’s free, but also because I like the show being in a non-profit place dedicated to building this library of material for anyone to consume, and the community provides the source material for the show – providing material (the podcast) in return and promoting the site seems the least I can do.
As for tv shows, I Love Lucy and others are still under copyright, but there are still some public domain shows (like “The Lucy Show”, which came later) to be mined, and I’ll certainly be doing that more in the future.
